Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley today appointed Patricia “Pat” Timmons-Goodson to the N.C. Supreme Court. Timmons-Goodson takes the seat vacated by the appointment of Associate Justice Sarah Parker to Chief Justice.
“Pat’s experience as a District Court Judge and judge on the N.C. Court of Appeals makes her eminently qualified to serve on this state’s highest court,” Easley said. “As a former prosecutor, attorney general and now as governor, I can attest that her knowledge of the law and work ethic are superior. I am certain she will be an outstanding justice.”
“I have known Pat for many years,” said District Attorney Ed Grannis. “She is a fine lady and legal scholar who will make a wonderful addition to the court.”
“I was grieved when Pat left the Court of Appeals because the Court lost her talents of legal scholarship, common sense and judicial experience,” said former Court of Appeals Chief Judge Sid Eagles. “I am pleased that the Governor has found a way to bring those talents back into service for the people of this state.”
Timmons-Goodson recently retired from the N.C. Court of Appeals after serving nine years. Prior to that, she was a District Court Judge in Cumberland County for 13 years. Timmons-Goodson is a member of the N.C. Judicial Conference and the N.C. Association of Black Lawyers. She has also served as the Secretary of the Appellate Judge’s Conference of the American Bar Association.
